Versive gives teams a self-serve way to evaluate its autonomous AI moderator, with a free trial and published plans. Its text, voice, and video studies combine AI follow-ups with 20+ structured question types, and separate AI Tests use AI personas on Figma prototypes, live websites, and images. An embed SDK, an Enterprise REST API, and an MCP server connect studies and results to products and existing tools.

Outset also runs text, voice, and video AI interviews with real participants. Its documented workflow includes structured questions, panel integrations, visual intelligence, highlight reels, and enterprise support. It offers custom subscription plans without public price amounts. Outset's synthetic users validate interview guides before launch, while Versive's separate AI Tests complete prototype and live-site tasks.

What Versive does

Versive covers two product lines on one platform:

Studies are AI-moderated surveys and interviews with real participants, in text, voice, or video mode. Studies support 20+ question types, including AI conversational questions with adaptive follow-ups, NPS, rating and matrix scales, ranking, allocation, card sorts, prototype tasks, and media upload. You get conditional branching, screen-out logic, quotas, device enforcement, and studies in up to 20 languages with AI translation. The AI interviewer is configurable: personality, guidelines, follow-up depth per question, and question rephrasing you can constrain or turn off.

AI tests run usability tests with AI personas instead of recruited participants on Figma prototypes, live websites, and uploaded images. In website tests, the AI navigates the live site in a real browser. Modes include dynamic interviews and heuristic evaluation against Nielsen's 10 heuristics or your own, with optional SUS questionnaires. Personas can be built from your real research data and reused across tests.

Versive's product lines share a workspace and credit allowance but use different result views. Studies provide themes, sentiment, attributed quotes, charts, and PDF or CSV exports. AI tests provide per-run transcripts and screenshots, aggregated recommendations, and PDF export. Versive also provides an embed SDK, an MCP server, and an Enterprise REST API.

What Outset does

Outset is an AI-moderated qualitative research platform. Its AI moderator conducts interviews over text, voice, or video and probes for the reasoning behind answers, including audio and visual cues in video sessions. It supports concurrent, multilingual studies.

On the setup side, Outset generates interview guides, supports qualitative and quantitative questions, and includes skip logic and probing guidelines. For real-participant usability studies, Digital Intelligence observes desktop and mobile screens, flags interaction friction, and passes prioritized observations to the moderator for post-task probing. Its analysis produces summaries, themes, quotes, and video highlight reels. Recruiting runs through multiple panel integrations alongside bring-your-own-participant options.

Question types and study design

Both platforms run AI-moderated interviews in text, voice, and video, and both handle concurrent sessions without assigning a human moderator to each one. Outset's video moderation can probe based on what participants say and what the AI observes. Both platforms support multilingual research.

The larger product-design difference is the question library. Versive combines conversational AI questions with card sorts, tree tests, conjoint, ranking with matrix, point allocation, prototype tasks with goal detection, website tasks, media uploads, and other structured formats. One study can collect quantitative structure, task evidence, and qualitative follow-up from the same participant. Outset documents conversational and standard quantitative questions, but Versive covers more specialized research methods inside the builder. See survey question types, and when to use each for the full set.

Analysis

Both platforms automate qualitative synthesis. Outset generates summaries, themes, quotes, and highlight reels for teams that communicate research through video clips. Versive produces themes with quote attribution and timestamps, sentiment and quality scoring, fraud detection, auto-generated charts for quantitative questions, custom insight prompts, video clips, and PDF and CSV export. Compare the exact report, dashboard, and highlight-reel outputs your stakeholders require.

Panel access

Both platforms support recruiting, but the workflows differ. Versive integrates Prolific and Respondent recruiting, with screeners, quotas, and incentive management, plus share links, email outreach, and in-product embeds. Outset documents multiple panel integrations. More on recruiting options in how to recruit research participants.

AI testing

The synthetic capabilities serve different stages. Outset's synthetic participants validate interview guides, while Versive AI Tests send AI personas through Figma screens and live websites. Separately, Outset supports real-participant desktop and mobile usability studies with AI screen observation and targeted follow-ups.

Versive supports sequencing an AI test before recruited research in one workspace. The two product lines share credits but retain result views suited to each method. AI-persona findings are directional and should be validated with real participants when decisions are consequential. Pricing approach

As of August 2026, Outset offers custom standard and enterprise subscription plans without public price amounts. Versive offers a free trial and published self-serve plans, with enterprise plans available for SSO and custom limits. A normalized cost comparison requires matching study volume, modes, panel spend, and entitlements.
